ICE-T supporting Alberni innovation

The Island Coastal Economic Trust approved more than two-million dollars in funding this year, much of it coming to Port Alberni and area First Nations.
They put $84,000 in matching funds to the City of Port Alberni to develop strategies for attracting an innovation economy, and paid $77,000 towards the refurbishing of the story tower at the Harbour Quay.
CEO Brodie Guy says members of the trust enjoy working closely with all levels of Alberni Valley governments and organizations.
“When you look at Port Alberni it’s the ‘can do’ attitude that people have there to make it a better place all the time and keep working at it,” he said. “You see that in lots of other communities as well but Port Alberni’s pretty exceptional in terms of the spirit there and the good work that’s going on it makes it very straight-forward for the Trust to be supportive of it.”
Of the 44 projects they contributed to this year, 7 were in the Alberni area including $95,000 for attracting tourists to Bamfield and Huu-ay-aht lands, and $100,000 for economic development projects for Uchucklesaht.
