Fisheries and Oceans has once again increased the forecast run size for Somass Sockeye – this time to 650,000 fish – a 60% increase from their preseason forecast.
This allowed further commercial openings for Area D gillnetters, and Area B seiners, whose extended fisheries tentatively ended yesterday.
More than 360,000 sockeye have made it back to their spawning grounds around Sproat and Great Central lakes.
Recreational anglers are now allowed to catch 4 per day in tidal water and 2 per day at Somass Park.
