Grad ceremonies scaled back

COVID and costs have caused the end of the large group grad ceremony for ADSS students.

Grad will be hosted at the smaller ADSS auditorium with seatings spread over two days.

ADSS Principal Rob Souther says the cost of renting the multiplex combined with audio-video companies consolidating or closing post-COVID, forced the change of venue.

:29 “We just couldn’t do the group ceremonies that we have always been able to do,” he said. “The cost associated has skyrocketted to the point where we were looking at two things that were competing for our concerns: one was that the cost of renting the multiplex to getting the audio visual companies in place was going to result in us having to charge $25 to $30 a ticket for people to be part of the grad ceremony which is unreasonable and unbearable for many families.”

The first ceremony for the 200 members of the Class of 22 was last night, and there are two more grad sessions today, at 2 and 7 pm.

Tomorrow night is grad parade and prom at the Alberni Athletic Hall.
