The city has finally received the $2.5 million from the federal and provincial governments to start construction of the Quay-to-Quay path project.
Mayor Sharie Minions said the need for a waterfront walkway has been discussed for the past 40 years, and was a priority for this council.
“Council came together and identified this early on in our strategic plan,” she said. “We gave a lot of opportunities for input along the way before we started moving forward on this project. We believe, based on community feedback that we’ve received and Outlook2020 reports, that this is a priority project for the community, so we’re really excited to have the funding now in place and be able to move it forward.”
Construction could begin this summer on sections of the 4 kilometer, $7 million pathway that will eventually link up Victoria and Harbour quays for pedestrian traffic.
