Sproat Lake logging protest

A group of Sproat Lake residents are preparing a blockade this morning.
Dozens of people are upset that MOSAIC plans to log their 7 hectare private managed forest-land property along Stirling Arm Drive right to roadside, destroying decades of trailwork and bridges built by community members.
Courtney Ketchum says Stirling Arm neighbours were not warned of the logging plans.
“We’re still coming upon more and more people on the trails who have no clue and this is the reason why they live here and love it here,” she said. “This week, this will all be demolished and people will be shocked and horrified because they had no clue. This section of the forest has bike trails and bridges and it’s maintained by the residents, and that’s what they want to take.”
MOSAIC says they presented their plans to the Sproat Lake Woodland Society in December, and at a community meeting last Monday.
Protesters plan to block logging equipment from entering the area starting at 7 this morning.
