Port Alberni will again be used for a major emergency training exercise.
Canadian Forces Lieutenant Cody Wylie told the regional district board that National Forces will initially gather at CFB Comox before spreading out across the island.
Various scripted events based on a sub-sea earthquake will send Disaster Assistance Response Teams from Comox to Port Alberni, Nanaimo and Victoria, and report to a central communications base in Ottawa.
In 2016, Port Alberni hosted 70 members of the Heavy Urban Search and Rescue team for a 4-day training event.
Exercise Reconnaissance 2022 will happen in April.
