The city took another step forward in the development of their Quay-to-quay waterfront pathway project.
Consultants hired to conduct public engagement reported 432 people completed their survey, with both positive and negative comments but an overwhelming support for the plan.
Mayor Sharie Minions said the next step is to begin building the path in sections, probably starting with the Somass Mill lands.
“As the community is the most excited about the waterfront portion, so is council,” she said. “We certainly hope to be able to create a priority section along the Somass waterfront now that we own it. It likely won’t be the permanent section that will be built but we’re hoping to open up that water frontage to the community to enjoy and really come out and see what that land is so special and why council wanted so badly to acquire it.”
City Council asked staff for a development timeline.
Construction could begin next year.
