The Hupacasath Nation has teamed up with forest giant MOSAIC to develop a new campground and recreation site at Loon Lake.
According to a press release, the 27-site campground will offer breathtaking views of Mount Arrowsmith on a stocked fishing lake located just 10 minutes east of Port Alberni at the top of the hump.
Hupacasath Councillor Jolleen Dick says they manage other campsites in the region.
“It’s really exciting to work on partnerships like campgrounds,” she said. “We have previously held agreements to manage Snow Creek so having another campground partnership where we can use the land is very exciting for Hupacasath.”
Logging and road construction will begin next week which could cause traffic delays on the hump.
The campground is scheduled to be open for summer 2022.
