Evacuation plans are being formulated, in case of earthquake, tsunami or wildfire.
The Alberni – Clayoquot Regional District, City of Port Alberni, and the Tseshaht and Hupačasath First Nations are working together to develop an Evacuation Route Plan for the Alberni Valley
Protective Services Manager Heather Zenner said the tsunami warning from a few years ago highlighted the need for improved plans.
“I think the January 2018 tsunami warning is still in the forefront of people’s minds, and whenever I talk to people about evacuation that is quite often brought up, so I anticipate that will come through in the survey and public engagement,” she said.
Zenner said the ACRD is hoping for public input and recommendations for improvements through a survey on their website.
