Water levels remain normal, for now.

Alberni’s water supply is in good shape, but in need of rain.

While cities on the east coast of the island are introducing tough watering restrictions because of drought conditions, Port Alberni’s public works manager Clint Wright says water levels in our reservoirs are currently at normal levels, but decreasing fast.

“Our main source that we draw from is China Creek, which is fed by Lizard Lake and the surrounding watershed,” he said. “It’s in good shape but that could change quickly as the dry weather continues. If the current conditions persist, you can expect water restrictions to increase in the coming weeks.”

He said Port Alberni is currently under Stage One watering restrictions, but could jump to Stage 2 or 3 by the end of the month.
