Port Alberni Firefighters have been busy fighting multiple fires in Dry Creek Park through the night.
Crews extinguished a small fire behind the Best Western Barclay around 7:30 last night before being dispatched to Dry Creek near Anderson according to Fire Chief Mike Owens.
“Quite a pronounced column of smoke and fire burning up a steep grade in Dry Creek Park approxinately 80′ by 80′ and burning up into the trees,” he said.
Crews were back in Dry Creek near the quadrant shortly before 6 this morning, battling a smaller but similarly human-caused blaze.
Owens said crews have fought more than a dozen bush fires over the past 9 days.
