Mayor says city taxes will decrease for some

Mayor Sharie Minions says many homeowners will see a reduction in their tax bill this year, due to COVID grants and an overpayment error made last year,
She said while the city budget could be going up by almost 4%, and average assessed property values are up 7%, many people could actually see a 2.7% decrease in their tax bill.
“That’s because we are returning the additional funds that were taxed for the library, so the average single family home will see a reduction of 2.72% this year on what they actually are taxed,” she said.
Details of the city’s 5-year financial plan were discussed at an e-town hall meeting last night showing a 3.95% increase in the city budget this year, and a 4.8% increase in 2022.
4 people called in to speak, and 11 letters from taxpayers were received.
