Mill runs on local support

Locals powered McLean Mill profits over the Christmas holidays, with $22,000 in sales at the gift shop last year.

Bill Collette told city council the National Historic Site went over budget by just $500 in 2020, with revenues of close to $190,000.

Mayor Sharie Minions said the new management structure has done well, despite the challenges.

“Despite the challenges of the first year of the Chamber of Commerce running the mill I think they have done well at utilizing the site and getting members of our community and from the tourist community when acceptable, out there, and giving people a reason to keep coming,” she said “It’s been a challenging year, but I think they absolutely did the best with the situation they were given.”

Collette says they’re still getting at least 2 calls a week about wedding bookings even though they are not actively marketing the site.

He said they have set a target of $400,000 in revenues by 2023, and are starting planning towards a steam-up event in 2026, the 100th anniversary of McLean Mill.
