Senior sentenced for trafficking

A 67-year old Port Alberni man was sentened to 18 months of jail after being caught with fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Russell Armstrong said he was holding the drugs as an intermediary, but Judge Alexander Wolf said he didn’t buy it, calling the senior a “merchant of death” for dealing the often deadly drug.

Armstrong was arrested by police in September 2019 as part of a break and enter investigation, and when they opened his backpack they found 6 flaps of meth and 15 flaps of fentanyl worth around $500. There was also a notebook detailing drug transactions.

Armstrong pled guilty to two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
