It’s been 100 days since Tofino Mayor Josie Osborne was elected MLA for Mid-Island / Pacific Rim.
While much of her first few months were spent meeting new colleagues and staff, she said she was glad to push some project funding across the finish line.
“The emergency room upgrades at West Coast General Hospital have been a priority for a long time, and certainly as I was at the regional district table we talked about this over and over again, so it felt really great to be able to be able to be part of that announcement,” she said.
She says signing off on a $6.25 million expansion to the west coast general hospital emergency facilities was a highlight so far, and she’s working with local leaders on other Alberni Valley priorities.
“Housing and economic development are things that come up over and over,” she said. “We’ve had a number of conversations around the drydock proposal through the port authority and CME, and also housing, which is a topic that is near and dear to everybody’s hearts.”
She said since October there has also been funding announcements totalling almost $300,000 from community gaming grants into sports, arts and culture non profit organizations in the Alberni Valley.
Osborne – the former mayor of Tofino and chair of the ACRD – was given a cabinet position as the NDP’s Minister of Municipal Affairs – one of only two new MLA’s to receive Ministerial portfolios.
