The city says the oil spill at McLean Mill has been cleaned up, according to an environmental engineer’s report.
An estimated 7,000 litres of Bunker C oil used by the Number 7 Steam Engine was released from a tanker car in October.
2,000 tonnes of soil was removed along with 50 metres of track and a historic dip tank building at an estimated cost of $1.25 million.
According to the 60-page report submitted to the Ministry of Environment, shallow groundwater and surface water at the spill site was affected, but none of the spilled product entered any stream or wetland.
The cause of the spill is still under investigation by the city and police.
