Union of BC Municipality meetings have started early, as the COVID Crisis has forced a new structure on the political group.
Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions says while the actual conference doesn’t begin until next week, virtual meetings with Ministers have been happening this week as regional and municipal leaders press provincial heads on priority projects.
She said during a meeting on Tuesday, Transportation Minister Claire Trevena indicated her support of upgrades to the Beaver Creek Road / Highway 4 intersection.
“The Beaver Creek intersection work has been talked about for a long time and is long overdue, and Minister Trevena was really familiar with the intersection itself and really recognized the need for that work to be done,” she said. “It’s nice to see actual action happening from these meetings and we’re really thankful to have the province engaged on this.”
Minions said she has also met with Solicitor General Mike Farnworth and will be meeting with Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Judy Darcy on community safety initiatives.
