UPDATE: Tseshaht First Nation fisheries negotiators are hoping to reach resolution with Fisheries and Oceans Canada today.
They had accused DFO of stalling acceptance of a chinook economic opportunity agreement.
Tseshaht fisheries negotiator Martin Watts said they hope to have a signed agreement today, and there will not be any protest blockades this weekend.
“We have absolutely no intention of blocking that ramp this weekend and disrupting the derby,” said Watts. “We want everybody to have a successful derby and we hope for the best for all anglers in catching that big fish.”
Watts said recreational sector representatives have been an ally to First Nations at the fisheries roundtable, as all groups fight for fairness from DFO.
