Commercial chinook fishery starts tonight

The first commercial chinook fishery of the year starts tonight.
Area D gillnetters are anchored from the mouth of the Somass to Hocking Point hoping to catch some of the more than 90,000 chinook expected to be returning this year.
The gillnet fishery opens at 8:30 tonight and runs until 5:30 am tomorrow.
After that, 5 Area B seiners arrive and have an opening from the clocktower to Lone Tree Point, from 7 am to 8 pm Wednesday, or until 4000 fish have been caught.
As of last Tuesday, 673 chinook had passed through the counters at Stamp Falls, and more than 4600 had been caught by recreational anglers.
