Uptown Revitalization Strategy continues

City Council accepted the first report on uptown revitalization yesterday, and recommended moving forward with the second stage of the study.
Almost 600 people participated in the survey where crime reduction, poverty and addiction issues were identified as the biggest factors facing the uptown area.
Mayor Sharie Minions says the report supports what the city has already been doing to improve public safety around Third and Argyle.
“We’re already working on some initiatives like the Public Safety Building to add in the uptown area that will continue to help people feel safe in the area and have that person-to-person connection in that area,” she said.
The report was a joint project between the city and the Masters of Community Planning program at VIU
The Union of BC Municipalities recently announced a $22,000 grant to the city for poverty reduction, and that money will help fund the second stage of the study, with final results expected before the end of the year.
