A happy day for Alberni children today, as playgrounds open throughout the Valley.
Port Alberni Mayor, and mom of 4 Sharie Minions says it’s been a trying time for kids and parents, and while other municipalities opened playgrounds a few days ago, local governments wanted to do a coordinated opening here.
“It’s been really challenging, especially for our younger residents of our community to find things to do, and add to that to not have playgrounds opened as well I know has been challenging,” she said. “We’ve been working really hard to collaborate with the School District 70 and the ACRD. We didn’t want to enter into a situation where if you go to one park it’s open but another one is closed depending on who owns it. We’ve been trying to work together and make sure that when they re-open they’re reopening in a way that’s safe for all of and our children, and it’s consistent throughout the community.”
Families will be asked to practice continued self-distancing, and make sure no one who is sick attends a playground.
