City Council has reduced restrictions on cannabis production facilities, eliminating the 300 metre buffer between growers.
While cultivation can only happen on industrial and commercial lands, because of the federal approval of dozens of former medical licence growing facilities, the old rules would have prevented any new developments from coming in.
The facilities still can’t be within 300 metres of a school or daycare, and will have strict rules around odour, lights or noise on their properties.
The city will now have to organize a public hearing before a third reading of the bylaw, which could be challenging given current COVID-19 restrictions.
Council also approved an application yesterday for the former teleglobe building on Mallory Drive to receive a zoning amendment as a possible commercial cannabis cultivation facility.
