Paper Excellence is extending curtailment of paper operations at Powell River and Crofton.
VP Graham Kissack says, about 290 positions in Powell River will be affected, another 150 at Crofton, but Port Alberni will be unscathed.
“We’re going to continue to run Port Alberni full at this time, and they’re basically going to be fulfilling all of our paper manufacturing for our customer base,” he said.
Kissack says the combination of a shortage of fibre, a malware attack and COVID-19 has negatively affected operations, but the situation remains fluid and the timeline may be modified in the coming months.
