While the city was able to cut more than $800,000 from the budget this year, they still got hit with an 80% increase to their insurance costs.
City Council was told the $215,000 increase from AON was impossible to avoid as the news came at renewal time, so there wasn’t an ability to find a new carrier in time.
The rate went from $267,000 in 2019 to $483,000 this year.
City staff have been asked to shop around for a new insurer for next year.
