Food banks have come under an unexpected strain this month.
Here in Port Alberni, the Salvation Army, Bread of Life, Shelter Society and other agencies have come together to provide food and hygiene products to more than 200 people a day.
Captain Michael Ramsay says the shelves are emptying fast, and while all donations are gratefully accepted, money is the best.
“Cash donations are always the easiest because they’re the easiest for people to drop off or send through without the risk of contaminating anyone,” he said. “The more we help out those in need, and the more we can stay home and do that, the absolute better.”
