Bamfield Bridge still out

Alberni – Clayoquot Regional District directors voted to send a letter to the provincial government, urging them to fulfil promises they made to improve the Bamfield Road.
Bamfield area director Bob Beckett said the road is a lifeline for his community, and the fact that a washed out bridge has not been repaired is further proof of the governments abandonment of the west coast.
He said Wilson Bus Lines has discontinued charter service to the Bamfield Marine Science Centre, after two students died in a bus crash last September.
Bamfield residents have been forced to take a long detour around the bridge, as repairs have been stalled by the United Steelworkers strike and some local contractors who have not yet agreed to the terms of settlement.
Beckett said without improvements to the road, he’s not sure what the future holds for Bamfield.
