City to pursue poverty study

City Council is moving cautiously towards an Uptown Revitalization Project and Strategy.

The city will apply to the Union of BC Municipalities to fund a Poverty Reduction Action Plan to address underlying issues facing the area.

Councillor Cindy Solda says the study should look further than just Uptown.

“I think the whole community needs revitalization,” she said. “It’s not just Third Avenue that needs work, we have four areas of our community that needs work, and this is a great step.”

Solda said the regional district will also be discussing their application for identical funding today, as the BC government is offering $25,000 to help fund action plans.

Council also sent architects back to the drawing board for the Third Avenue Revitalization Project, after a public outcry against parallel parking.

They’ll be asked to adjust their conceptual design with angle parking.
