David Bird pleads guilty

After sitting in jail for the past 14 months awaiting trial, David Bird pled guilty to unlawful confinement and assault with a weapon in Port Alberni provincial court yesterday.

The 40-year old is accused of beating a man in December 2018, along with 38-year old John Sorensen who assisted Bird, and was sentenced to 13 months jail in May of last year.

Details of the assault are protected by a publication ban until sentencing is complete, possibly in May.

Bird pled guilty to similar charges in 2018, and in 2014 was sentenced to 2 years in jail after shooting a man in the leg with a shotgun, which forced doctors to amputate the victim’s leg.
