Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions is at the Truck Loggers convention in Vancouver along with councillor Ron Corbiel.
She’s talked with Premier Horgan and the Labour Minister, and had a meeting with the Forest Minister to describe the effect the strike is having on small businesses in forest dependent communities.
“When I met with Doug Donalson a lot of it was just talking about the impact on small business and the impact on contractors and how the USW workers are struggling right now,” she said. “It’s just bringing the message forward constantly so that they know what’s going on in our community because they might not see it in their day-to-day lives in the communities that they’re in.”
Minions said government leaders are hopeful the WFP strike will end soon.
The annual gathering of forest companies and contractors ends today.
