Members of city council are turning their attention towards nuisance properties once again, after 33 people signed a petition complaining about the front of the squash club on 3rd Avenue.
Councillor Ron Corbeil said he receives more complaints about the squash club than anything else.
Building owner Randy Brown says fixing the frontage will cost more than $50,000 and he is in the process of putting the money together, and Community Futures extended his deadline to receive funding from the facade improvement program for work to be completed by March 20th.
Mayor Sharie Minions said the squash club and the Harbourview Apartments across the street have become a “visual nuisance”, and suggested a new process to force property owners to meet community expectations.
The city’s current nuisance property bylaw is primarily based on emergency calls for service.
