Johns pushes for coastal support

Courtenay – Alberni MP Gord Johns is back in Ottawa, and attended the delivery of the throne speech in the new Senate chambers.
Johns, who was appointed Fisheries critics in the NDP shadow cabinet, said the government needs to come to the rescue in coastal BC where both the fishing and forest industry workers are out of work and suffering.
“We’re looking for relief. This is causing huge stress in coastal communities and people are losing their homes and losing their boats and the government needs to step up,” he said. “The Federal Government needs to take some action and work closely with the Province of British Columbia to address these really important issues.”
Johns said there was nothing substantial in the speech from the throne for coastal British Columbians and he will be pushing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to respond quickly to west coast concerns.
