Departmental budget meetings begin

City Council held their first departmental budget meeting last night, hearing from administration and parks and recreation about the roles they play.

City CAO Tim Pley said the municipality has more than 200 employees, and higher-than-average injury rates have resulted in higher WorkSafeBC payments

Parks, Recreation and Heritage manager Willa Thorpe said her biggest concern is aging infrastructure, and properly caring for the city’s 45 parks.

She said with a $75,000 plan to plant more trees in the city, a new parks labourer will need to be hired this year.

Tonight, the city’s biggest budget area – the RCMP – will make their presentation to council, along with the fire and I.T. departments.
