Wood burning sparks Air Quality Advisory

Last week’s record-breaking cold snap is being blamed for an air-quality advisory over the weekend.
With no wind and little air movement in the valley, smoke from fireplaces and woodstoves were trapped, elevating particulate levels and prompting the advisory.
Forestty burn piles were also lit up last week behind Sproat Lake shops, but none of the forest companies we contacted admitted to burning so close to town.
While PM2.5 levels are now down below the warning zone, people with asthma or other chronic illnesses should have a personal care plan ready for future air quality advisories this winter.
