Regional District Directors were urged to pressure the provincial government on childcare issues.
Marcie De Witt and Tanya Smith, who authored a child care needs assessment for the board, said the BC Government needs to make good on their promise of $10 a day daycare, and more funding to train early childhood educators.
De Witt said there are 5 children for every childcare space in the Alberni – Clayoquot region, and many families have moved from smaller communties after being unable to find childcare
She said there is a critical need for infant toddler care and before and after-school programs in Port Alberni and west coast communities.
