Rules governing cannabis production in rural areas has been delayed after lawyers recommended the Regional District re-do their public engagement session.
ACRD CAO Doug Holmes said two letters submitted before the deadline didn’t make it in to the meeting package, and area directors engaged in conversation about the issue after the meeting, which isn’t legally allowed.
“In this case we know of two letters that should have gone that were overlooked for two different sets of circumstances, but the point is they were overlooked, and we want to make sure this is done properly,” he said.
ACRD Directors held an in-camera meeting yesterday morning to receive legal advice on the issue before their regular meeting yesterday afternoon.
150 people attended the 2 1/2-hour public hearing on the 19th at the Cherry Creek Hall.
Regional District Directors were supposed to give third and final reading to a cannabis production bylaw yesterday, but that is now on hold until another public engagement session can be held sometime next month.
