City Councillor Ron Paulson is blaming bureaucracy for the prolonged closure of the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
He says the process to bring the ice-chiller back online was unclear, and accused the provincial inspector of “moving the goalposts” through the process.
“Some of what went on there was just the filling out of bureaucratic documents,” he said.”To a small community like ours, to be shut down for 25 days and have that kind of financial and social impact in our community is devastating.”
Paulson estimates the 25-day closure cost the region a half-million dollars in economic activity after hockey tournaments were cancelled and BCHL games moved out of town.
He’s hoping Technical Safety BC will meet with city managers and technicians to streamline any future interactions.
