School District 70 – Alberni is looking to change their name, and the name of some schools next year.
Seismic upgrades to Ucluelet Secondary means essentially a new building for students that come from various west coast communities.
Board of Education chair Pam Craig says it’s time to make names more inclusive, reflecting the different communities in the district.
“For the district, we have talked about SD Pacific Rim, or SD Alberni – Pacific Rim, and looking at the new school developments in Ucluelet we’ve talked about Pacific Rim Secondary School or West Coast Secondary School, and we’ve also talked about the renaming of A.W. Neill to possibly Compton Elementary or Kitsuksis Elementary,” she said.
Craig says they want feedback and ideas on the name changes before the board makes its final decision in the Spring of 2020.
