Alberta man sentenced in Alberni

The man who caused police and first responsers to swarm Save-on-foods last month, was sentenced yesterday.
40-year old Cory Smith was high on meth when he went in the grocery store just before the dinner rush, setting off fire extinguishers and acting violently, before locking himself in a front office.
The RCMP K-9 unit was dispatched, and as officers fought to open the office door, Smith kicked and punched at the police dog Jammer, who suffered some abrasions to his head.
Undeterred though, Jammer bit into Smith multiple times, but the man was so high on drugs, he would rip the dog off of him, causing even more damage to himself as a result.
Smith required more than a hundred stitches to his arms and legs, and was sentenced to 7-weeks time served.
The Alberta man who has no real connection here, is prohibited from coming back to Port Alberni during his 3-years probation, and must pay Save-on-Foods $238 for the damage caused.
