The Arrowview Hotel is coming down.
After 2 1/2 months of negotiations, owner Raymond Latourneau sold the building to DJ Excavation of Lantzville.
Owner Stan Pottie says his crews will start demolition first thing Tuesday, with much of the building being salvaged and recycled.
“We’ve sold the lumber to Europe and a couple of places in Victoria because the old lumber is really valuable,” he said. “We’re going to preserve a lot of stuff that comes out of the building, the doors, bathtubs, the old heater cores are going to be preserved, instead of filling up your landfill.”
Pottie expects the Arrowview should be completely dismantled within a couple of months, and then the process to build a modern 4 storey condominium project will begin.
City CAO Tim Pley said council is relieved a buyer has come through, saving taxpayers an estimated $600,000 in demolition costs.
