Mayor meets BC’s top cop

Mayor Sharie Minions met with BC Solicitor General Mike Farnworth on Wednesday, asking for increased funding for policing in Port Alberni.
According to Minions, the city pays for 80% of policing, which translates to the highest per capita costs in the province.
She says the provincial share hasn’t been updated in many years, and is in need of adustment.
“We’ve got the highest cost of policing per capita, and certainly not the highest ability to pay in the province,” she said. “I think he understood our point, and we’re optimistic we’re going to hear good news.”
Minions met with the provinces top cop at the Union of BC Municipalities meetings in Vancouver, which will wrap up today.
