Concerns surround Cannabis Campus

Sproat Lake residents will be gathering this evening to discuss a proposed cannabis campus in their area.

The 377,000 square foot facility is planned to be home to dozens of independant growers who will lease space in the building to be constructed on a hundred acre parcel between the airport and Great Central Lake Road.

Neighbours are concerned about the smell emitted from the facility as well as airborne toxins, and fear for the safety of the area aquifer they draw their well water from.

They are also afraid of chemicals from the 50-acre outdoor garden getting into local streams and lakes.

Reg Cocks lives near the proposed site and said the facility should be put on industrial, not agricultural land, and said this is not a case of simple nimbyism

The meeting starts at 7 tonight at the Sproat Lake Community Hall, and organizers also plan to make a presentation to the regional district board next Wednesday.
