Port Alberni priorities announced

Port Alberni City Council released their long-awaited strategic plan yesterday, mapping out their priorities for the next four years.

Mayor Sharie Minions said while many of the issues weren’t shared by everyone when they were elected last October, they worked towards consensus through many meetings.

She said one of the 35 strategies to improve the city, is to build a trail connecting Harbour Quay with Kitsuksis Dyke for pedestrians and cyclists, recognizing there are industrial properties between the two points.

Getting logging trucks off Third Avenue continues to be a priority, and the city needs to either work with Western Forest Products or find a way around their property in building an industrial truck route.

Council will target investment in the Uptown area, particularly on Third Avenue between Argyle and Mar, and on Argyle from Third Avenue to the Harbour Quay.

Minions said she is prepared for criticism based on her ownership of a new restaurant on Argyle Street but said council will not be deterred by online trolls.
