The Canal Waterfront Park has been closed to swimming after Island Health discovered enterococci levels were almost off the charts.
Enterococci bacteria levels in salt water should be less than 35 per 100 millilitres of water, but according to tests taken last week, bacteria levels hit 950
Canal Beach was one of 33 island beaches tested, and the only one found to have levels in excess of maximum levels.
Enterococcus is a bacteria usually found in feces, and is called E. Coli when found in freshwater environments.
