Baader acquitted in death of baby

Warren Baader was acquitted of manslaughter charges in BC Supreme Court yesterday.

The 23-year old was accused of killing his 2 month old daughter Molly in October 2016.

BC Supreme Court Justice Robin Baird took almost two hours in laying out his reasons, saying although most medical experts said the baby’s broken skull and countless brain hemorages could not have happened from simply dropping the baby, other experts said there was a very slight chance.

“The prevailing medical evidence is such injuries are rarely produced by such a short fall,” said Baird. “It is possible the force involved in a short fall may have been enough. It’s unlikely, but it cannot be ruled out.”

Baader did not testify, but Justice Baird addressed the accused, saying only he knows what really happened to baby Molly that day.

Justice Baird said the case was very difficult and unpleasant, but Crown Counsel failed to prove the manslaughter charge beyond a reasonable doubt and he had no choice but to acquit.
