Two men arrested for alleged thefts

Two men were arrested yesterday after allegedly being spotted casing vehicles, and trying door handles searching for unlocked cars.

People in the area of Frank and McNaughton streets spotted the pair and called police immediately.

Port Alberni RCMP Sergeant Peter Dionne said those phone calls were key.

“A homeowner that saw someone prowling around the streets, checking handles of doors of parked cars gave us a location and a direction of travel and we were able to get there quickly and arrest the subjects in possession of stolen property,” he said.

Dionne says the two were soon caught at the top of Argyle, and were found in possession of bank cards and other items that didn’t belong to them.
