Water restrictions arrive early

Stage One watering restrictions will come into effect on Monday, 2 weeks ahead of the scheduled July 1st date.
City Utilities Superintendant Amar Giri says water is still spilling over the Dam at China Creek Intake but due to the warm weather and high daily consumption he wants to ensure that there is enough water storage in our reservoirs to last throughout the summer months.
With stage one you can still wash your car or boat and water your garden, but watering lawns can only happen every second day from 6 to 9 am or 6 to 9 pm
Many observers say local lakes are already at mid-July levels.
Conditions are worse on the other side of the island where Parksville Qualicum just announced Stage Three restrictions.
