Port Alberni mayor Sharie Minions along with council member Helen Poon and city CAO Tim Pley were at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) annual convention in Quebec City last week.
Minions said while most of the time is spent comparing issues and solutions with other municipal leaders, they may have secured some funding for McLean Mill
“Myself and the CEO had meetings with some grant operators and we found a really positive opportunity for a grant stream for some of the work we’re doing at McLean Mill,” she said. “We’re very optimistic that we’ll end up with some funding out of this conference.”
Minions said while all municipalities are facing funding challenges, and problems dealing with the opioid crisis, they are also reporting positive outcomes through investing in youth and community initiatives
She and Councillor Poon will present their full reports at the city council meeting at 2 pm today.
