Port Alberni’s first cruise ship visit in six years is being hailed as a success.
The Maasdam was the third Holland America ship to include Port Alberni in its Alaskan run after the Amsterdam and Statendaam.
David McCormick, the director of business development for the Port Authority, says the welcoming received by the passengers was a great advertisement for the Alberni Valley.
He said 84% of the ship’s 1250 passengers came to shore, which is far above average, especially considering Port Alberni was the second to last stop for the cruise.
While a morning rain was the only complaint from the passengers, McCormick said there will be two more cruise visits this summer to make amends.
