Unsightly properties targeted

Derelict properties can expect increasing pressure from city hall.

Bylaw Services Manager Flynn Scott says there are currently five properties facing increasing fines and clean-up costs, further to the Margaret Street and 10th Avenue homes that were formally ordered on Monday to clean up or be demolished.

Mayor Sharie Minions said the city is serious about cleaning up abandoned homes and unsightly properties

“We want to hold our community to a higher standard,” she said. “We don’t want properties that are completely derelict and this is the last resort when nothing can be done through working with the property owner.”

Minions said city staff formed a nuisance property committee to review and pursue lazy landowners.
