School Buses get cameras

Motorists who pass school buses illegally could be hearing from police.

Cameras have been installed on all local school buses that take high quality pictures of cars and their licence plates when the buses are in ‘do-not-pass’ mode and have lights flashing.

Greg Roe, School District 70’s Director of Operations says it’s all about keeping students safe.

Roe says the district spent $65,000 to install cameras outside and inside the buses where they can monitor student behaviour.

Pictures of passing cars are forwarded to police, who haven’t said what they plan to do with the information.
